Lázně Libverda ([ ˈlaːzɲɛ ˈlɪbvɛrda ]) (German Bad Liebwerda ) is a spa town in the north of the Czech Republic .
Geographical location
The municipality is located just under two kilometers northeast of Hejnice and about nine kilometers southeast of Frýdlant in the valley of Libverdský potok . Lázně Libverda belongs to the Liberecký kraj and the Okres Liberec .
history
In 1381 Libverda was first mentioned in writing in the Urbarium of the Friedlander rule, which is kept in the state archive in Děčín . Shepherds originally lived in the settlement.
Towards the end of the 16th century, the healing springs were discovered and increasingly sought out, making Liebwerda a spa town. The Saxon Elector August I of Saxony and the Duke, Prince and General Wallenstein had the natural mineral water from the Jizera Mountains sent to them.
In the late 18th century, further spa facilities and the summer residence of Christian Phillipp Clam-Gallas , who ruled in Friedland, were established. In 1807, the Russian Grand Duchess Feodorovna visited the spa. Seven years later, the composer, conductor and pianist Carl Maria von Weber spent a short time in Bad Liebwerda. He is said to have been inspired by the way to the Stolpich waterfall for a scene in his opera Der Freischütz . In 1840 and 1843 the Czech poet and linguist Josef Jungmann visited the spa. The place belonged from the middle of the 19th century to the judicial district Friedland or the district Friedland .
After the Munich Agreement , the place was added to the German Empire and belonged to the Friedland district until 1945 .
