Hlavice (German Hlawitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located six kilometers southwest of Český Dub and belongs to the Okres Liberec .

geography

Hlavice is located south of the Jeschkengebirge in the Ralská pahorkatina ( Rollberg hill country ) between the valleys of the Zábrdka and the Malá Mohelka. To the north rises the Jelínka ( Jellinkaberg , 504 m).

Neighboring towns are Cetenov , Vystrkov and Lesnovek in the north, Doleček in the northeast, Malčice in the east, Nantiškov in the southeast, Vrtky, Přibyslavice, Mohelka and Kozmice in the south, Vápno in the southwest and Končiny in the northwest. To the west of the village, to the right of the Zábrdka, are the deserted villages of Kostřice, Proseč, Nový Mlýn, Olšina, Křída and Palohlavy, which were extinguished by the Ralsko military training area.

history

Based on ceramic finds in the parish garden, it is assumed that Hlavice was founded at the transition from the 11th to the 12th century. Like the surrounding area, Hlavice has belonged to the Benedictine monastery of Hradiště since the middle of the 12th century . The first written mention of the village took place in 1352. Since 1358 there was a wooden parish church with a parish apartment in Hlavice, the district of which comprised 15 surrounding villages. The little church was destroyed during the Hussite Wars .

In 1705 a school in Hlavice was first mentioned. In the middle of the 18th century a new church was built. After the parish in Hlavice was the only one in northern Bohemia to be spared the rinderpest epidemic in 1747 , the church of St. Linhard became the destination of processions to protect against cattle diseases. A pilgrimage tradition developed from this. In 1794 a new wooden schoolhouse was built.

After the abolition of patrimonial Hlavice formed from 1850 with the districts Doleček, Habelberg, Fleck, Končiny, Lesnovek, Vápno, Záhatí and Zourov a municipality in the political district of Turnov . In 1878 Vápno formed its own municipality. In the same year a new school building was built. After the Second World War, the Ralsko military training area was built west of the municipality , which is why all the villages on the right side of the Zábrdka were cleared. At the beginning of 1961 the Okres Turnov was dissolved and Hlavice was assigned to the Okres Liberec . At the same time, Vápno and the district Nový Mlýn were connected to Hlavice. After the Red Army occupied the training area in 1968, it was further expanded. As a result, the settlement of Nový Mlýn in the Zábrdka Valley was given up. In 1968 a new school house was inaugurated, in which the first level of elementary school was taught. In 1980 it was incorporated into Všelibice , and the municipality has existed again since 1990. The old school building was used for the second level of the primary school until 2004 and was abandoned after it was abolished.

The main pilgrimage in Hlavice is held annually at the end of August. The pilgrimages were also described by the writer Karolína Světlá .
