Habartice (German Ebersdorf ) is a municipality near Frýdlant ( Friedland ) in the far north of the Czech Republic in the Liberec district of Liberecký kraj near the borders with Germany ( Saxony ) and Poland .

geography

Habartice lies on the left side of the border stream Koci Potok / Kočičí potok (Katzbach) in the Jizera Mountains foothills . Neighboring towns are Zawidów in the north, Stary Zawidów in the northeast, Miedziane and Háj in the east, Horní Pertoltice in the southeast, Dolní Pertoltice in the south, Černousy in the southwest, Ostróżno in the west and Skiba in the northwest.

history

Ebersdorf was first mentioned in 1399, when a fiefdom was owned by the von Tschirnhaus family . From the second half of the 15th century the estate belonged to the von Bindemann family. In 1592 it was divided due to economic difficulties; the lower part kept the Bindemann family, the upper part fell to the Schwanitz family. The estate was merged again in 1662 by the Lusatian nobleman Hans Ludwig von Rodewitz, who owned it until 1712. From then on, the estate belonged to Count Johann Wenzel Gallas .

The life of the inhabitants of Ebersdorf was closely linked to that of Seidenberg (Zawidów) . For example, people visited the church in Seidenberg together and had to endure numerous wars until in 1620 Seidenberg and Ebersdorf were separated from the Friedland rule. The actual border along the Katzbach was formed in 1635 when Lusatia came to Saxony . After the end of the Thirty Years' War , hundreds of exiles from the Friedland area fled to Seidenberg.

Ebersdorf had more than 500 inhabitants in 1834. The construction of a road from Friedland in the years 1830–1833 and a railway line from Friedland to Seidenberg contributed significantly to the development of the settlement. The completed road was used in 1833 by the Russian Tsar Nicholas I and the then Prussian Crown Prince on their trip to Bohemia to meet the Austrian Emperor. The place belonged from the middle of the 19th century to the judicial district Friedland or the district Friedland .

After the Munich Agreement , the place was added to the German Empire and belonged to the Friedland district until 1945 .

After the Second World War , almost all people belonging to the German ethnic group were expelled from Ebersdorf by the Beneš decrees . Even after the repopulation by ethnic Czechs into the 1990s, every second house was empty.

Today the village has several restaurants and two shops that are right on the border.

Community structure

The community Habartice consists of the districts Habartice (Ebersdorf) and Háj (Göhe) , which also form cadastral districts.

Attractions

  • Castle courtyard ( Zámecký dvůr ). The former Zollhof, a restored building from 1620, forms the center of the village and is used today as a restaurant and hotel / guest house.

traffic

A developed road leads from the border towards Frýdlant. The bus "Pony Express" combines Habartice with Prague, Liberec ( Reichenberg ) and Friedland. In Habartice there is a road border crossing to Zawidów ( Seidenberg ) in Poland. After the Czech Republic and Poland joined the Schengen Agreement in December 2007, the control posts and border security systems were dismantled. Habartice and the surrounding area are not very well developed for tourism, although the landscape is attractive at the foot of the Jizera Mountains.
