geography

Aerial view of Endingen

location

Endingen with the associated wine-growing villages Amoltern, Kiechlinsbergen and Königschaffhausen is located in the north of the Kaiserstuhl . The highest point of the community is the Katharinenberg , in the south of the city center , on the top of which stands a chapel. At 492.4  m above sea level NHN , the Katharinenberg is the third highest peak in the Kaiserstuhl.

geology

The Kaiserstuhl was created due to the tectonic activity of the Upper Rhine Rift. The rift valley led to increased volcanism, which led to the formation of several stratovolcanoes that formed the Kaiserstuhl. The Katharinenberg in Endingen is an example of this. The volcanic rock that forms the base of the Kaiserstuhl is largely covered by ice-age loess deposits and is therefore not visible everywhere.

Neighboring communities

Neighboring communities are (clockwise from the west): Sasbach , Wyhl am Kaiserstuhl , Forchheim , Riegel , Bahlingen , all in the district of Emmendingen, and Vogtsburg , district of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald .

climate

The city is located in one of the warmest areas in Germany, at the Kaiserstuhl. The Mediterranean climate is reflected in the quality of the wines grown.

City structure

Endingen is divided into the three districts of Amoltern, Kiechlinsbergen and Königschaffhausen. These also form localities within the meaning of the Baden-Württemberg municipal code with their own local council and mayor as its chairman. Administrative offices with the designation "Local Authority" have been set up in each of the localities. The districts are officially named by prefixing the name of the city and followed by the names of the districts connected by a hyphen. The districts are spatially identical to the former municipalities of the same name. The urban area is also divided into the four residential districts in terms of the Baden-Württemberg municipal code: residential district I (Endingen) , residential district II (Amoltern) , residential district III (Kiechlinsbergen) and residential district IV (Königschaffhausen) . Only the villages of the same name belong to the three districts. The town of Endingen and the Wilhelmshöfe homestead belong to the town of Endingen within the boundaries of 1970.

history

Endingen

Endingen was first mentioned in a document in 862. It belonged to the Lords of Endingen for several centuries until it passed to the Lords of Üsenberg , who granted Endingen town charter between 1285 and 1286 . After the Üsenbergs died out in 1379, the Küchlin were enfeoffed with them in 1425 , the city came into Habsburg possession and was assigned to Upper Austria , whereby it briefly had the status of a free imperial city at the beginning of the 15th century .

In 1751 one of the last witch trials in Europe took place in Endingen : on April 24th Anna Schnidenwind was burned at the stake. After the Peace of Pressburg in 1805 , Endingen came to Baden with all of the Breisgau that had previously been in front of Austria .

The citizens of Endingen are very traditional. Old customs have been preserved to this day. For centuries, on Christmas Eve, when the church bells are struck at midnight, the running water has been fetched from the many wells in Endingen and drunk as "Heiliwog". In addition the saying is said: "Heiliwog - God's Gob, Glick ins Hüs - Bad luck nüs!" (Heiliwog - God's gift, luck in the house, bad luck out)

In 1843, 358 citizens emigrated from the Kaiserstuhl area via Le Havre to Colonia Tovar , Venezuela , primarily from Endingen am Kaiserstuhl, Forchheim (Kaiserstuhl), Wyhl and Oberbergen. After some confusion, they were resettled in their current location. The farmers planted vegetables and fruits and also brewed Venezuela's first beer; they built their houses in a half-timbered style.

The place celebrated for centuries the commemoration of an alleged Jewish ritual murder of a four-headed beggar family from 1462 and the burning of at least three Jews in 1470. Until 1967 the prepared ones were placed in the parish church of St. Peter Corpses of the "innocent children of Endingen" on display. The meanwhile empty sarcophagus is still there (2012), above the right side altar shows - above St. Sebastian - a small picture of the two supposedly killed children. They are also shown on the Osanna bell, cast in 1714 .

With the exception of Kiechlinsbergen, which belonged to the former district of Freiburg before the incorporation , the city had been part of the district of Emmendingen since it belonged to the state of Baden .

politics

Town hall in Endingen

Municipal council

The local election on May 26, 2019 resulted in the following distribution of the now 25 seats in the town council of Endingen with a turnout of 63.6% (+ 3.7):

Party / list Share of votes G / V Seats G / V
CDU 27.1% - 8.4 7th - 2nd
GREEN 19.4% + 19.4 5 + 5
SPD 8.8% - 5.2 2 - 1
Endinger Bürgergemeinschaft (EBG) 27.8% - 2.1 7th ± 0
The independents (YOU) 16.9% + 1.3 4th ± 0

Youth Council

There has been a youth community council in Endingen since 2010 , after Marianne Wonnay , former SPD member of the state parliament, brought the idea to life together with the local secondary school. The youth council represents all young people between the ages of 14 and 18 years. The representatives are elected for a period of 2 years in pure postal voting . The number of members was initially set at 12 in the statutes, and from 2015 at 10.

The turnout in the first election on July 25, 2010 was 13.5 percent. Sophia Albietz and Theresa Klipfel (as deputies) took over the chairmanship of the newly elected youth council. The greatest successes of the first term of office were the establishment of a night bus from Freiburg to Endingen, and the construction of the youth center.

Two years later, on September 23, 2012, new elections were held. The turnout was 7.0 percent. During this legislative period, the body was led by Christoph Leon ( EBG ) and Nico Karschewski (EBG, until 2015 SPD ). In the early summer of 2013 there was a city-wide youth survey in which 10% took part. The content of the survey was the implementation of the sports facilities on the outside area of the youth center, which, according to the results of the survey, should begin with the construction of an inline hockey field. Due to a lack of funds, the project was put on hold for the time being, but not finally deleted from the city budget.

For the election of the third youth community council on October 25, 2015, one year later, the number of members was reduced to 10. It was also decided that there should be electoral lists sorted according to the age of the candidates. The aim is that as many age groups as possible are represented on the council. After counting the ballot papers, a turnout of 6.4% was determined. After participation had already halved in 2012, this was a further decline in the number of young people voting. The fixed number of seats of 10 members could not be achieved after electoral proposals were rejected, so that the 3rd youth council only has eight members. After Christoph Leon and Nico Karschewski (both EBG) no longer stood for election, Heiko Zipse (SPD) and Marius Rapp took over the board. The youth council lost more and more of its importance, so that the planned election in autumn 2017 did not take place. The youth council has not yet been officially dissolved.
