The Kategoria e Pare 1989/90 (mutatis mutandis: First League ) was the 51th staging of the Albanian football championship and was the National Football Association Federata Shqiptare e Futbollit aligned. The season began on August 25, 1989 and ended on May 20, 1990.
Season course
As in the previous year, the league comprised 12 teams. In the season 1988/89 were KS Skënderbeu Korçë and KS Lushnja Traktori relegated from the Kategoria e Pare, for the new season came Luftëtari Gjirokastër and FK Tomori Berat , both direct resurgence had managed to add. The defending champion was 17 Nëntori Tirana .
The championship was played in a regular season with three rounds. There was no championship and relegation round this season. Each team competed three times against each other team, with the top six in the table playing six home and five away games in the third round. In addition, a new special regulation was introduced to encourage the teams to play more offensive football: an additional point was awarded for a win with a difference of three goals or more, and a point was deducted for a defeat with the same difference. In contrast to the previous year, only the bottom of the table rose directly to the then still second-rate category e dytë , as the league was to be increased to 14 participants in the following season. The champions moved into the European Cup , the runner-up qualified for the UEFA Cup .
A total of 446 goals were scored, which corresponds to an average of 2.3 goals per game. The top scorer with 19 goals was Kujtim Majaci from KF Apolonia Fier for the second time after 1986 .
After four seasons Dinamo Tirana returned to the top and secured the fourteenth championship title in the club's history. Thus they drew level with the previous sole record champions Partizani and 17 Nëntori Tirana. However, they also benefited from the fact that pursuers Partizani Tirana were deducted two points for exceeding the maximum number of yellow and red cards. With this deduction, Partizani was one point behind Dinamo. These two clubs had set themselves apart from the rest of the field; the third-placed Flamurtari Vlora , who pushed back to the top of the table after a season in the relegation round, was already ten points behind. Defending champion 17 Nëntori Tirana followed well behind in fourth. Behind Vllaznia Shkodra and the punished Apolonia Fier came in promoted Luftëtari Gjirokastra and thus confidently secured the league's whereabouts. Also Besa Kavaja and the other newcomer Tomori Berat and Lokomotiva Durres could stay away from the relegation zone just. Happy was the relegation for Labinoti Elbasan : only thanks to the three penalty points for Besëlidhja Lezha Elbasan stayed away from relegation rank. After one season in the championship round, Lezha now had to move into the second division.
