This list includes the parishes in the Canadian province of Ontario . There are 445 municipalities (as of January 1, 2008), which are structured in different ways. The difference lies in the amount of public services that are offered.
Single-stage communities (single-tier municipalities) are not subject to the parent unit and have no subordinate units
Regional municipalities (regional municipalities) are associations of urban areas without a dominant center, whose sub-municipalities perform individual tasks
Municipalities in counties hand over individual administrative tasks to the superordinate counties
Parishes in districts hand over the majority of the administrative tasks to the higher districts
