Political positions and initiatives

Martin Hagen advocates a freely organized school system in which independent , publicly-funded and independent schools compete with one another. The state would define standards in this system and secure the financing of the schools through education vouchers . In order to reduce the dependence of educational success on social origin, Hagen calls for more investment in early childhood education , a compulsory preschool year and a legal right to a full-day school place.

In view of demographic change and the shortage of skilled workers, Bavaria needs clear and contemporary rules for immigration and a cosmopolitan social climate, says Hagen. For refugees, Hagen calls for the removal of legal hurdles in the labor market, better recognition of foreign professional qualifications and the possibility of “changing lanes”: Anyone who has found a job or training position in Germany should be allowed to stay here.

Hagen is a firm supporter of free trade and globalization .

In October 2019, Hagen started an initiative to support unintentionally childless couples through a state subsidy towards the cost of fertility treatments . Hagen not only made a previous cancer public, but also revealed that his two children were born through artificial insemination. Hagen's concerns were joined by the ruling parliamentary groups of the CSU and Free Voters, a corresponding motion was passed unanimously by the Bavarian State Parliament in December 2019.
