The venue was the Olympic Tennis Center in the Athens Olympic Sports Complex , where the DecoTurf hard court was played.

After his gold medal in doubles, the Chilean Massú also won the gold medal in singles against the American Fish after 4:00 hours. In the game for the bronze medal, Massús doubles partner González defeated his opponent Dent from the USA after 3:25 hours.
Double
In the final, the Chilean duo González / Massú defeated the German Schüttler and Kiefer in five sets. Kiefer / Schüttler awarded four match points in the tie-break of the fourth set. In the fifth set, both duos lost their own serve several times - after 3:43 hours and an hour asleep at 02:40 a.m. with the better ending for the Chileans. They needed four match points for the first Olympic victory in the history of Chile.

The game for the gold medal was won by the Belgian Henin after 1:18 hours. The Australian Molik defeated the Russian Myskina after 1:04 hours in her match for third place. In the semifinals, Myskina led 5: 1 in the decisive third set, but lost it 6: 8.
