Revenge ( English for "revenge") is an American drama series that aired between September 21, 2011 and May 10, 2015 on ABC . The series is described by the creators as a mixture of Brothers & Sisters and Pretty Little Liars .

action

Emily Thorne appears in the Hamptons this summer and rents a beach house just off the Grayson Estate. In reality, Emily is Amanda Clarke, whose father, David Clarke, was sentenced to life imprisonment when Amanda was a child for a crime he did not commit (money laundering for a terrorist group). The sentence separated him and Amanda, and their father allegedly died in prison in an assassination attempt.

As an adult, Amanda, aka Emily, now wants to take revenge on everyone who was involved in the conspiracy surrounding her father. Her main target is Victoria Grayson, the matriarch of the Grayson family, who had a love affair with her father. The series mostly focuses on Emily / Amanda's plans to bring down the culprits. Over time, she receives various pieces of information about her father's past, which often forces her to revise or discard her plans. A box that is given to her by her best friend Nolan Ross and contains important documents such as her father's prison diaries also plays an important role.

season 1

Emily Thorne and Daniel Grayson celebrate their engagement party. A little later someone is found murdered on the beach.

Five months earlier: Emily Thorne moves into a beach house in the immediate vicinity of the Graysons. She quickly makes friends with the new neighbors and apparently blends in harmoniously with the neighborhood. Nobody suspects that Emily lived in the neighborhood as a young girl, but under her real name, Amanda Clarke. At that time, her father was charged with a crime under the auspices of the Graysons, for which he was sentenced to life imprisonment. Without parents, Emily had to grow up in various institutions and was released from a juvenile detention center at the age of 18. In front of the institution she is greeted by Nolan Ross, a friend of her father's who had made his fortune thanks to him. In addition to her share of the fortune, Nolan confronts her with the truth about her father, who had been killed in a prison riot a few weeks earlier. After phases of rebellion and self-discovery, Emily decides to take the path of revenge, which is where the first episode begins.

First, she visits her father's former secretary, Lydia Davis. Lydia had incriminated David on the stand and was currently having an affair with Conrad Grayson, her best friend Victoria's husband. Emily reveals the secret love affair between Lydia and Conrad, whereupon Lydia is expelled from the Hamptons by Victoria. Emily uses her friend Ashley Davenport for her intrigues and through her meets Victoria's son Daniel. She also meets her childhood friend Jack Porter, who named his boat after Amanda. Emily begins a relationship with Daniel, much to Victoria's displeasure. Through espionage and other intrigues, she gradually ruins the lives of other people involved. In a first climax, the house of the writer Treadwell burns down, who made a profit from the story of David Clarke. Emily cornered Conrad and Victoria more and more, eventually revealing that Conrad had David Clarke eliminated at the behest of a secret organization called the Americorn Initiative to avoid going to jail himself. Season 1 ends with Emily and Nolan watching a Graysons surveillance video. Not only would this video be a heavy burden for the Graysons, the two also deduce from the video that Emily's mother is still alive.

season 2

In the season opener, a time jump into the future is shown, in which Jack's boat "Amanda" can be seen sunk on the ocean floor. There's a corpse in the boat. One learns more details about Emily's mentally ill mother and the circumstances that led to the separation between the two. After returning to the Hamptons with Nolan, Emily becomes more and more concerned with her mother's case and the circumstances under which she was admitted to a mental hospital at the time. Daniel Grayson is still at his father's side in the company, starts drinking again and has also now turned to the apparently shy Ashley. Jack also lets himself go, which is why his pregnant Amanda and his brother Declan feel neglected and are very worried about him.

Declan gets on the wrong track and breaks into the house with an alleged friend. But he leaves Declan's ID card in the house, and so the police get on Declan's trail. Since Declan and Jack cannot raise the money to compensate for the damage, the house owner becomes a partner in the bar. He quickly hires his brother in too, and they smuggle drugs into the bar via the goods transport system. With Charlotte's help, Declan finds the secret out, and Jack puts an old friend who works in the police on it. But the drugs were hidden on the boat in time, where they are found together with a gun. Jack has to go to jail. The father of the two brothers was once shot with the weapon found. The killer was an old friend of Carl Porter, the father of Jack and Declan. However, the brothers believe that Carl killed their father and are out for revenge.

Meanwhile, Daniel takes over the management of the company and relieves Conrad from his position. He manages this not least with the help of Aiden, who gives Daniel the information that Nolan's company only came about with the money of his father's company. Eventually Nolan's company becomes a subsidiary. A video showing Ashley having sex with Conrad and Aiden's interference lead to the separation of Daniel and Ashley. Meanwhile, Aiden and Emily get closer and become a couple. Looking back, it becomes clear that the two have had a love affair before. In order for Daniel to get closer to Emily again, Aiden and Emily fake their separation, not least because Victoria Emily has put Daniel on. Emily and Daniel get closer again.

season 3

Everyone returns to the Hamptons, and Emily and Daniel plan their wedding. Victoria has disappeared, plans her revenge on Emily and gets unexpected help from Aiden. Emily picks up Nolan from prison and meets Jack for the first time, who now knows of her true identity. After a kiss, Jack tells her that he has no feelings for her and that she should go away after the summer and never come back. In a glimpse into the future, we see Emily in a wedding dress being shot. Conrad learns that he has a serious illness and wants to change his life. He gets help from Charlotte, but she learns that he knew about the bomb that killed Declan. Victoria introduces her missing son, Patrick, to her family. Emily calls in Father Paul to get Conrad to confess, but Conrad is killed in a car accident. Then Conrad learns that he is not sick at all.

Nolan and Patrick start a secret relationship. Emily warns Nolan about Patrick and tells him her plan. She wants to sacrifice herself to then attach everything to Victoria. Meanwhile, Jack and Margeaux are getting closer. In an attempt to break up Emily and Daniel, Victoria throws a party to which she also invites Daniel's ex-girlfriend Sara. It turns out that Daniel still has feelings for Sara, but he puts them on hold when Emily reveals to him that she is pregnant. Lydia shows Victoria a photo of Emily as a waitress.

After the wedding, Victoria confronts Emily about the picture and forces the admission that she was just using Daniel. Aiden then manages to distract Victoria and take her away. However, Daniel overheard the conversation between them and angrily shoots Emily. She is admitted to the hospital and at first does not remember the crime, but slowly the memories come back. She intends to give up her plans for revenge, but changes her mind when she learns that the gunshot wound prevents her having children. To keep in touch with the Graysons, she claims that Lydia shot them. In addition, Emily has been plagued by blackouts since the accident and she does things that she can no longer remember afterwards.

Conrad's ex-wife Stevie Grayson shows up, who reveals to Jack that she is his mother. Daniel has Aiden and Emily monitored. He receives a photo of them kissing, whereupon he demands a divorce. Margeaux's father Pascal LeMarchal shows up, and Conrad gets him to do business with him. Emily wants Pascal as an ally, but he swears eternal loyalty to Victoria, as both had a relationship in the past. Aiden visits Oscar Chapman and learns that his father was betrayed and murdered by Pascal. Which leads Pascal to kill Oscar before he can testify. After Pascal proposes marriage to Victoria, Aiden and Emily kidnap him and pretend to be Homeland Security agents in order to force Pascal to confess. Conrad is warned and kills Pascal, but makes it look like an accident.

Aiden and Emily kidnap Charlotte in an attempt to force Victoria into a confession. Charlotte confronts Conrad with everything she knows about him and has him arrested. Daniel is blamed for the death of a girl and Charlotte arrests Jack for believing he was responsible for her kidnapping. Victoria traps Aiden and kills him. Thereupon Emily takes revenge and lets Victoria be sent to a mental institution. Conrad is released from prison and is stabbed to death by David Clarke, who is believed to be dead.
