The Scottish League Cup was played for the 23rd time in 1968/69 . The Scottish Football League Cup, which was played among the participants of the Scottish Football League , began on August 10, 1968 and ended with the final on April 5, 1969 in Hampden Park in Glasgow . As the defending champion, Celtic Glasgow started the competition that prevailed against FC Dundee in the previous year's final . In this year's final, Celtic faced Hibernian Edinburgh . For Celtic it was the fifth game in a row since 1965 and the 7th overall since 1957 . The Hibs from Edinburgh reached the final of the League Cup for the second time in the club's history after 1951 . The Bhoys won the final 6-2. It was the sixth league cup triumph for Celtic since 1957. In the 1968/69 season , after 1967 , Celtic won the triple of championship , cup and league cup for the second time in the club's history . Due to the victory in the championship, Celtic took part in the European Cup in the following season . The Hibs remained without European Cup participation. Celtic lost the final 2-1 after extra time against Feijenoord Rotterdam .
