The province of Caserta (Italian Provincia di Caserta ) is an Italian province of the Campania region . The capital is Caserta . The province has 922,171 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in 104 municipalities on an area of ​​2,639 km².

The province corresponded to the Terra del Lavoro province of the Kingdom of Naples . Since there was particularly much resistance to the fascist regime in this province, Benito Mussolini dissolved the province and divided the municipalities into the adjacent provinces of Rome , Naples , Benevento , Campobasso and the newly established province of Frosinone .

In 1945 the province was re-established as the province of Caserta , but without the municipalities that were now part of the Lazio region .
