Creative Cities Network

The Creative Cities Network ( UCCN ) is a UNESCO project . It aims to celebrate and maintain cultural diversity. To this end, the member cities share their experiences in maintaining local cultural heritage and discuss plans for how they can cope with globalization .

Intention and function

The network aims to strengthen the cultural identity of the member cities, regardless of the growing trend towards internationalism.

The aim of the UNESCO program is to unite public and private partners and societies and to promote the creative economy . The international exchange should be improved and new collaborations developed. Cities that meet various criteria from the field of film and cinema can apply for this award.

The project aims to highlight a prominent aspect of the culture of these cities and finds ways in which the relevance of this cultural asset in city life, in the local economy and in social development can be increased. The aspects of culture that are taken into account in the project are: literature , film , music , folk art , design , media and gastronomy . There is a separate award for each of these aspects.

UNESCO City of Literature

The UNESCO City of Literature is a UNESCO City of Literature award that was newly established in 2004 and is part of the new Creative Cities program . It is not to be confused with the long-standing title World Book Capital .

Further applications are ongoing, the aim of UNESCO is to create a worldwide network of cities of literature.

UNESCO City of Film

The title UNESCO City of Film was established in 2005.

To be honored with the title, the following requirements must be met:

• the city should have a well-developed cinematic infrastructure related to the cinema
• there should be historical connections to the production, development and promotion of the medium of film, which are in a culturally relevant context
• the cinematographic legacy should find its place in the city in the form of archives, museums, private collections and film (high) schools
• the city should host film festivals, screenings and cinematographic events
• Filmmakers and artists should have their place of birth, place of residence and / or work in this city
• Films about the city or with it as a setting should exist, preferably made by local filmmakers
