Altenberg Trio

The Altenberg Trio is a piano trio from Vienna .

The trio, named after the Austrian writer Peter Altenberg , was founded in 1994 on the initiative of long-time pianist Claus-Christian Schuster . The members have been Christopher Hinterhuber ( piano ), Ziyu He ( violin ) and Christoph Stradner ( cello ) since autumn 2018 .

history

In 1984 Schuster founded the Wiener Schubert Trio together with the violinist Boris Kuschnir and the cellist Martin Hornstein . After the dissolution in 1993, Schuster formed the trio together with the violinist Amiram Ganz and Hornstein, who was succeeded by the cellist Alexander Gebert in 2004 . In 2012, Schuster left the trio due to illness, which formed anew with Christopher Hinterhuber and Christoph Stradner . Amiram Ganz, who retired from the trio in 2018, was replaced by the young violinist Ziyu He .

Since its "official" debut at the Salzburg Mozart Week , the Altenberg Trio Vienna has earned the reputation of one of the most daring and consistent ensembles in this category in around 1,000 performances.

In addition to works from the immediately adjacent areas of piano quartet , piano duo , triple concerto and vocal chamber music, his repertoire includes more than 200 piano trios, including many works that the Altenberg Trio itself inspired and premiered , including by Friedrich Cerha and Werner Pirchner .

Since it was founded, the Ensemble Trio in residence of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna, for which it organizes an annual concert cycle in the Brahms Hall of the Wiener Musikverein .

The Altenberg Trio led a regular seminar course for chamber music at the Conservatory Vienna Private University and offered monthly master classes for young ensembles at the Accademia di Musica di Pinerolo ( Piedmont ) for several years .

In 1999 the Altenberg Trio received the Robert Schumann Prize from the city of Zwickau . The CD Piano Trios from America with works by Charles Ives , Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein won an Edison Award in Amsterdam in 2000 .
