Points were awarded as follows, with a maximum of four results being scored for each runner:
- 25 for a win
- 15 for a second place
- 10 for a third place
- 5 for fourth place
- 1 for fifth place
The US $ 500,000 prize for the best man went to Kenyan Martin Kiptoo Lel . Among the women there was a tie between the German Irina Mikitenko and the Ethiopian Gete Wami . Since each had beaten the other once, the vote of the race directors had to decide, who unanimously declared Mikitenko the winner of the series and awarded her the prize money of $ 500,000. In making this decision, they took into account that Mikitenko had needed fewer races for their points and that their times average was better.
