Michael Boddenberg (born July 15, 1959 in Troisdorf ) is a German politician ( CDU ) and has been Hessian Finance Minister since March 31, 2020 as the successor to the late Thomas Schäfer . Before that he was chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in the Hessian state parliament from January 2014 to March 2020 and before that he was the Hessian State Minister for Federal Affairs and authorized representative of the State of Hesse at the federal government .

Life

After obtaining the general university entrance qualification in Siegburg in 1978 , Boddenberg completed an apprenticeship as a butcher . In 1983 he passed his master's examination in the butcher's trade at the JA Heyne technical school in Frankfurt and was a member of the management of Mainfrost Tiefkühlkost GmbH from 1984 to 1989 . In 1990 he founded the non-profit association Juniorenverband des Deutschen Butcherhandwerk as a nationwide communication platform for young butchers. From 1989 to 2009, Boddenberg was the head of the private butcher and bakery college JA Heyne . Between 1995 and 2002 Boddenberg was managing director and partner of Fleischfeinkost Schäfer GmbH . From 2005 to 2009 he was managing partner of JA Heyne GmbH & Co. KG , which has been managed by his wife Sylvia Heyne-Boddenberg ever since.

Boddenberg is a Roman Catholic denomination, married and has three children.

Boddenberg has been a member of the CDU since 1988 and worked there from April 1, 2001 to February 5, 2009 as General Secretary and Managing Director of the CDU Hessen . From 1993 to 1999 Boddenberg was as honorary city councilor of the Municipal Council of the city of Frankfurt am Main . He has been a member of the Hessian state parliament since April 5, 1999. From 1999 to 2009, Boddenberg was a member of the Committee on Economics and Transport and, between 2004 and 2009, he was economic policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group . He has been a directly elected member of the state parliament for the constituency Frankfurt am Main IV since 1999. After the early Hessian state elections in 2009 , he was appointed Hessian Minister of State for Federal Affairs and Plenipotentiary of the State at the federal level on February 5, 2009 . In 2012 and 2013 Michael Boddenberg was a member of the mediation committee of the German Bundestag and the Bundesrat. In March 2009 he handed over the office of Secretary General to Peter Beuth after he had been appointed Minister.

On January 14, 2014, the CDU parliamentary group in Hesse elected Boddenberg as its chairman for the 19th legislative period beginning on January 18, 2014. On January 15, 2019, she re-elected him as group leader for the 20th legislative period.

After the death of Thomas Schäfer , Prime Minister Volker Bouffier (CDU) appointed Boddenberg as Hessian Finance Minister on March 31, 2020 . The constitutionally required swearing-in and confirmation in the Hessian state parliament took place on April 3, 2020. Ines Claus took over the chairmanship of the Hessian CDU parliamentary group .

Boddenberg is a member of the Polytechnic Society ( Frankfurter Sparkasse ), member of the representative assembly of Frankfurter Volksbank , member of the board of trustees of Horst Westenberger - Frankfurt Foundation for Cancer Research, member of the board of trustees of the Hessian Cultural Foundation, member of the board of trustees of the Sigmund Freud Institute, member of Board of Trustees of the “European Academy of Labor in the University of Frankfurt am Main”, member of the plenary assembly of the Frankfurt-Rhein-Main Chamber of Crafts and member of the board of the Frankfurt butchers' guild. He also holds the office of chairman of the supervisory board of the Central Cooperative of the European Butchers' Trade (Zentrag) until today . He is also chairman of the Hesse- Wisconsin friendship association and a member of the board of trustees of the Rheingau Music Festival . In addition, as Minister of Finance, he is also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Hessische Staatsweingüter Kloster Eberbach GmbH and Fraport AG and a member of the Supervisory Board of Messe Frankfurt GmbH.
