Borowa ( Ukrainian Борова ; Russian Боровая Borowaja ) is an urban-type settlement in eastern Ukraine and the administrative center of the raion of the same name in eastern Kharkiv Oblast with about 5300 inhabitants (2019).

geography

Borowa is located on the left bank of the Oskil , which is dammed up to the Oskilsk reservoir , and its tributary, the Borowa , to which the village owes its name. The regional road P-79 runs through the settlement . The village is located 141 km southeast of the Kharkiv Oblast center and 46 km south of Kupyansk .

In addition to Borowa, the settlement council also includes the villages:

  • Boini (Ukrainian Бойні ); about 70 inhabitants
  • Novoplatoniwka (Ukrainian Новоплатонівка ); about 460 inhabitants
  • Schyjkiwka (Ukrainian Шийківка ); about 740 inhabitants

history

The first written mention of the village comes from 1670. In 1923 the village became the administrative center of the newly founded Rajons. In 1968 Borowa received urban-type settlement status.

The Borowa district, founded in 1923 and administered from Borowa, has an area of ​​875.3 km² and a population of about 17,400 inhabitants. It is located in the east of Kharkiv Oblast and borders on Luhansk Oblast . The population density in the Rajon is 20 inhabitants per km².
