The city dean of Salzburg is a dean of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Salzburg .
It includes 24 parishes in the area of the city of Salzburg .
history
Metropolitan Consistory Salzburg
Originally, at the time of the secular prince-archbishopric (archbishopric) of Salzburg , the immediate metropolitan consistory of Salzburg included in particular the cathedral chapter with the archabbey of St. Peter , the parish of Mülln ( mills , subordinate to the Benedictines to Michaelbeuern ), and the curators of Gnigl and Nonntal together with the whole secular and regular clergy of the city and several other institutions, as well as the parish Bergheim with the - economically important - pilgrimage site Maria Plain and the vicariate Anthering . Metropolitan consistory together with the surrounding deaneries - in today's archbishopric ( i.e. Land Salzburg and eastern North Tyrol ), East Tyrol, and bordering Bavaria - formed the general vicariate of Salzburg , the possessions of the prince archbishops in Carinthia, Styria and elsewhere each formed their own administrative district.
Historic city dean of Salzburg
After the abolition of the prince archbishopric - which had voluntarily submitted to the Austrian Empire in the Napoleonic Wars in 1803 - and the annexation of the Salzburg district to Austria ob der Enns after 1816, a deanery was established for the city. This included (1854) cathedral parish to the Heil. Rupert and Virgil , fortress chaplaincy on healing. Georg (Franciscan), St. Andrä-Stadtpfarre , Bürgerspital-Pfarre zum Heil. Blasius (with the Benefice to St. Mark in the Ursuline Church ), the parish U. L. Frau zu Mülln , the Kuratie Mühlegg, in the St. Johannes-Kranken-Spitale and the parish Nonnthal, to the healing. Erhard and Morzg, for good. Vitus .
The curate, later the Gnigl parish with the Aigen curate , belonged to the dean's office in Bergheim , Liefering as a branch in Siezenheim , Hellbrunn in Anif (subordinate to St. Peter), Söllheim in the vicariate Hallwang in Bergheim, all in the same dean's office, the rest of today's urban area was spread out to the responsibilities of the city parishes, mainly Mülln for the north-west, and Nonntal for the south, but Aigen and Gnigl were subordinate to the cathedral.
In the course of the growth of the city (in 1780 the city court had around 16,000, around 1850 the city had around 25,000, 1951 100,000) the number of parishes in this city dean's office also grew, and in February 1953 the four parishes of Aigen, Liefering, Leopoldskron and Morzg grew affiliated to the Bergheim dean's office (the latter both have come there in the meantime). At that time the Salzburg city dean's office had 14 parishes.
The four deaneries of the city 1979–2011
In 1979 the city was divided into four deaneries. These were finally formed from 25 parishes:
- Deanery Salzburg-South: with Salzburg-Dompfarre, Salzburg-Gneis, Salzburg-Herrnau, Salzburg-Morzg, Salzburg-Nonntal, Salzburg-St. Blasius, Salzburg University Parish (7 parishes)
- Deanery Salzburg-Ost: with Elsbethen, Salzburg-Aigen, Salzburg-Gnigl, Salzburg-Itzling, Salzburg-Parsch, Salzburg-St. Andrä, Salzburg-St. Elisabeth, Salzburg-St. Severin (8 parishes)
- Deanery Salzburg-West: with Salzburg-Leopoldskron-Moos, Salzburg-Maxglan, Salzburg-St. Paul, Salzburg-St. Vitalis, Salzburg-Taxham (5 parishes)
- Dean's office Salzburg-Nord: with Salzburg-Fiefdom, Salzburg-Liefering, Salzburg-Mülln, Salzburg-St. Johannes at the State Hospital, Salzburg-St. Martin (5 parishes)
City dean of Salzburg 2011
On the occasion of the diocese-wide introduction of parish associations, also for the city, the four deaneries were abolished with legal effect from April 14, 2011, and a city deanery was established again . At the same time 6 parish associations were set up.
At the same time, the parish of Salzburg-St. Vitalis ( Maxglan-West and Wals-Viehhausen ) from the association of the city and affiliated to the Bergheim deanery and parish association Großgmain – Wals – Walserfeld – Siezenheim.
Scope and organization
The dean's office does not correspond to the urban area, there are deviations from the district border to the Salzburg area everywhere: in the north and south-east it extends far beyond this, in particular the municipality of Elsbethen in the southeast and half of the municipality of Koppl in the east. In the west, since the spin-off of St. Vitals, it has not extended entirely to the city limits near Wals (municipality of Wals-Siezenheim) . In the north, Itzling Nord and Kasern belong to Bergheim , Bergsam to Hallwang . In the south all of Hellbrunn belongs to Anif and smaller areas to Grödig .
The parishes form 6 parish associations :
- Salzburg Cathedral Parish - Salzburg-St. Blasius (old town)
- Salzburg-Itzling - Salzburg-St. Andrä - Salzburg-St. Elisabeth - Salzburg-St. Severin (northeast of the city)
- Elsbethen - Salzburg-Aigen - Salzburg-Gnigl - Salzburg-Parsch (southeast of the city)
- Salzburg-Gneiss - Salzburg-Herrnau - Salzburg-Morzg - Salzburg-Nonntal (south of the city)
- Salzburg-Leopoldskron-Moos - Salzburg-Maxglan - Salzburg-St. Paul - Salzburg-Taxham (west of the city)
- Salzburg-Lehen - Salzburg-Liefering - Salzburg-Mülln - Salzburg-St. Martin (northwest of the city)
The university and Johannesspital parishes do not belong to any association. However, various other parishes are integrated, such as the Croatian Catholic parish (personal parish for the entire diocese) at Parish Association 2.
The current dean is Balthasar Sieberer, cathedral priest at St. Rupert and Virgil.
