Ernst Reuter badge

The Ernst Reuter plaque has been awarded by the Berlin Senate since 1954 in honor of the first Governing Mayor of Berlin Ernst Reuter (1889–1953).

The plaque is to be given to personalities "who have made special contributions to Berlin". Outstanding achievements in the political, economic and intellectual-cultural area are to be honored.

The plaque was designed by the sculptor Richard Scheibe . In the first few years, the plaque was awarded in the silver and bronze classes. It has been awarded in silver-plated bronze since 1980 .

During the lifetime of his widow Hanna Reuter (1899–1974), the award could only be given with her consent.
