Czech football championship 1996/97

The Gambrinus League 1997/98 was the fifth season of the top Czech division in football . It was held from August 2, 1997 to June 3, 1998 with a winter break from December 2, 1997 to February 19, 1998.

16 teams played against each other twice on a total of 30 match days, divided into a first half and a second half.

Defending champion Sparta Prague secured their fourth Czech championship four match days before the end of the season. Local rivals Slavia Prague finished second, twelve points behind, and qualified for the 1998/99 UEFA Cup , just like third SK Sigma Olmütz . Cup winners FK Jablonec 97 took part in the last European Cup Winners' Cup.

Dynamo Budweis and Atlantic Lázně Bohdaneč were relegated to the Druhá fotbalová liga .
