L'Épine is a French commune with 1,641 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Vendée department of the Pays de la Loire region . Barbâtre belongs to the Arrondissement of Les Sables-d'Olonne and the canton of Saint-Jean-de-Monts ( canton of Noirmoutier-en-l'Île until 2015 ).

L'Épine is located in the middle of the Île de Noirmoutier in the Atlantic . In the north of L'Épine is the neighboring municipality of Noirmoutier-en-l'Île and in the south the municipality of La Guérinière .
