La Faute-sur-Mer is a French village with 660 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Vendée in the region of Pays de la Loire ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Les Sables d'Olonne and the canton of Mareuil-sur-Lay-Dissais (until 2015: canton of Moutiers-les-Mauxfaits ). The inhabitants are called Fautais .

geography

La Faute-sur-Mer is located about 38 kilometers south-southeast of La Roche-sur-Yon as a peninsula on the Atlantic coast . Here the Lay flows into the sea. La Faute-sur-Mer is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Grues in the north, L'Aiguillon-sur-Mer in the east and la Tranche-sur-Mer in the north-west.
