La Barre-de-Monts is a French commune with 2,199 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Vendée in the region of Pays de la Loire . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Les Sables-d'Olonne and the canton of Saint-Jean-de-Monts . The inhabitants are called barriens .
The resort of Fromentine belongs to the municipality .
geography
La Barre-de-Monts is located on the Atlantic coast at the crossing to the Île de Noirmoutier. La Barre-de-Monts is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Beauvoir-sur-Mer in the north and northeast, Saint-Urbain in the east, Sallertaine in the southeast, Saint-Jean-de-Monts and Notre-Dame-de-Monts in the south and Barbâtre in the north-west (on the Île de Noirmoutier).
