Menkhausen is a district of the city of Schmallenberg in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The village is located around 8 km northwest of Schmallenberg at the foot of the 425 m high Drasenberg at an altitude of around 330 m above sea level. The Wenne flows through the village . The village borders the Wenneaue nature reserve from Niederberndorf to north of Grimminghausen and the Offenland nature reserve around Menkhausen .

history

In 1202 Count Gottfried II. Von Arnsberg transfers the court to Herdringen and other goods to the Wedinghausen Monastery . Witness to this transfer was an Alexander von Menkhausen and his brother Albertus.

The Dorls Hof zu Menkhausen was the seat of the Free Counts of the State of Fredeburg in the 14th and 15th centuries . In 1536 the taxable population of Menkhausen was recorded by name in the treasury register.

Until the municipal reorganization in North Rhine-Westphalia, Menkhausen belonged to the municipality of Berghausen . Menkhausen has been part of the town of Schmallenberg since January 1, 1975.

religion

In Menkhausen there is the catholic listed St. Agatha chapel from the year 1667. On October 1st, 1921 Menkhausen was church affiliated to the parish of Dorlar.
