The opera Armide , which premiered on February 15, is the last completed opera by Jean-Baptiste Lully .

Operas and other stage works

  • January: The opera Servio Tullio, a “dramma per musica” in three acts by Agostino Steffani based on the libretto by Ventura Terzago , is premiered in the Hoftheater in Munich. The French composer Melchior d'Ardespin wrote ballet music for this opera.
  • January 28: The Ballet de la jeunesse by Michel-Richard Delalande to a libretto by Antoine Morel (around 1648–1711) is performed in the petit théâtre [small theater] in Versailles. It consists of a prologue and three intermediates. There were further performances on February 4th, 11th, 18th and 21st. It was printed in the same year by Christophe Ballard in Paris.

  • February 15 : The Tragédie en musique Armide by the Italian composer Jean-Baptiste Lully based on the libretto by Philippe Quinault is premiered at the Thèâtre du Palais-Royale in Paris. The premiere does not take place at the court of King Louis XIV , because Lully has fallen out of favor and the king no longer receives him. Lully hoped, however, to regain the king's protection.
  • September 6th : The Pastorale heroïque Acis et Galatée by Jean-Baptiste Lully based on the libretto by Jean-Galbert de Campistron is given for the first time at Anet Castle on the occasion of a Dauphin's hunting party . The opera is a subtle homage to the heir to the throne and thus to King Louis XIV.
  • December 26th : Domenico Gabrielli's opera Il Maurizio is premiered in the Teatro San Salvatore in Venice. The opera was a great success and in the following 20 years saw a whole series of performances on various stages in Italy (some in a revised form)

    • The happy Grand Vezier Cara Mustapha, first part, next to the gruesome siege and storming of the imperial resident city of Vienna (2 parts, Hamburg , Theater am Gänsemarkt )
    • The German opera Die Drey Töchter des Cecrops by Johann Wolfgang Franck , which premiered in Hamburg in 1680, was probably performed in Ansbach in an extended version .

It was reconstructed under the title Bacchus, Ceres and Venus , because the original sheet music is no longer available, but many parts have survived in other editions. The libretto is by Govard Bidloo .

    • L'Alcibiade is performed in Modena in 1680 after its premiere.
    • Tullo Ostilio, Alba soggiogata da Romani was performed in Reggio after it was premiered in Venice during the Carnival season of 1685.
  • The defeated oven, composer and librettist unknown, music lost. First performance in Leipzig, printed in Leipzig by Johann Georg. The plant celebrated the victory of the imperial, Bavarian, Saxon and Brandenburg troops against the Ottoman Empire . It consists of a prologue and three acts, divided into individual scenes, 32 arias and recitatives. OCLC 504445170

  • Hinrich Kopp builds the Hamburg Cithrinchen , a smaller version of the cister with a bell-shaped body.
