Neuhausen / Erzgeb. is a municipality in the Ore Mountains . The community with almost 2700 inhabitants is located in the south of the district of Central Saxony and is known for the Purschenstein Castle , as a winter sports resort and for the nutcracker museum.
geography
The community of Neuhausen / Erzgeb. is located in the transition area from the Eastern Ore Mountains to the Middle Ore Mountains , embedded in the upper Flöhatal . The area extends between the Rauschenbach dam , the 837 m high Kohlberg, the 834 m high Klugehübel and the 789 m high Schwartenberg and is located in the Ore Mountains / Vogtland Nature Park .

The community is located on crystalline slate and gneiss . If gray gneisses predominate in the Eastern Ore Mountains, more coarse-grained red gneisses are found here. In the area of the Flöhatals lies a very old, tectonically mobile zone that separates the Eastern and Central Ore Mountains. Geographically, the “Flöha Zone” probably plays a role in the Erzgebirge elevation.

From around the middle of the 19th century, Neuhausen developed into a center of the furniture industry in the Ore Mountains with a focus on chair construction. From this development, factories, apartments, shops, the town hall and the post office emerged. On October 1, 1895, the community was also connected to the Saxon railway network when the railway line between Olbernhau and Neuhausen was opened. For the first time, Neuhausen had a direct connection to the industrial areas of Chemnitz and the surrounding area.
On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Dittersbach b. Sayda incorporated.
The landmark of the place is the Purschenstein Castle. In 1989 the castle was largely destroyed by an attic fire. The exterior could be restored. Some interiors have been completely and some partially restored. In 2005 the castle was sold to a Dutch investor who converted it into a castle hotel.

Museums
Europe's first nutcracker museum
The first and largest nutcracker museum in Europe is world-famous with around 5000 copies from 30 countries (as of April 2009). A special attraction is the largest functioning nutcracker in the world with a height of 10.10 m, which replaced the previous 5.87 m record holder ( Guinness Book of Records ) in the entrance area on August 9, 2008 . There is also the world's largest music box in front of the museum .
Ore Mountains Glassworks Museum
The Ore Mountains Glassworks Museum is located in the former Fronfeste of Purschenstein Castle and shows, among other things, a glassworks from the time of Georgius Agricola , a workshop and other written and material evidence of the Ore Mountains glassmaking and the history of Neuhausen and Purschenstein.
The museum, which opened in May 1996, houses evidence of the former glass-making in the Ore Mountains, which date back to the settlement period around 1200 and which justified the term "glassland" for the Saxon and Bohemian Ore Mountains as early as the Middle Ages.
Technical Museum "Old Chair Factory"
The “Alte Stuhlfabrik” technical museum tells the story of chair making in Neuhausen.
Cämmerswalde show planes
Two discarded aircraft, an Interflug Il-14 and the MiG-21 fighter , are available for inspection in Cämmerswalde . The Il-14 was set up there in 1973 at the request of the then municipality of Cämmerswalde, the MiG-21 from the holdings of the National People's Army of the GDR followed in 2001 and in August 2006 a Mi-2 helicopter from the Soviet airline Aeroflot .
Motorcycle exhibition
The Neuhausen / Erzgeb motorcycle exhibition is located in the former vocational school . with the complete collection of all motorcycle models produced and imported in the GDR from 1945 to 1989.
Memorials
- Burial and memorial for 23 concentration camp prisoners from France , Hungary , Poland and the Soviet Union , which in a column from the central warehouse in Neu-Stassfurt the Buchenwald concentration camp were coming, driven by the place and murdered by SS men.
- Memorial cross (consecrated 1957) for the victims of both world wars in the cemetery at the church in Cämmerswalde. On July 22nd, 2007, for the 800th local anniversary, two plaques with the names of the fallen were attached by the local history association Cämmerswalde and consecrated by the pastor.
- Memorial to the fallen of the First World War , erected in 1923 in front of the school in Cämmerswalde. In 1945 the eagle was removed as a supposed Nazi symbol, it was lost. In 1973 the memorial was moved to the cemetery because a fountain was built in front of the school.
- Grave site in the cemetery in Cämmerswalde for a Soviet citizen known by name who was abducted to Germany during the Second World War and a victim of forced labor .

The station Neuhausen (Erzgeb ) is the terminus of the railway line Pockau-Lengefeld-Neuhausen . Freight traffic was discontinued in 1994, passenger traffic in 2001. From Olbernhau-Grünthal, line RB 81 of the Erzgebirgsbahn runs to Chemnitz main station .
Sports
As a recreational area, the community offers its guests, in addition to the outdoor swimming pool and the Schwartenberg stadium, numerous facilities for winter sports ; in winter there are over 30 km of cross- country ski trails . The municipality has become a traditional winter sports destination at the latest with the annual cross-country skiing competitions of the Schwartenberg run that have been held since 1923 . In summer the region is also an area used for aviation .
SSV Blau-Weiß Neuhausen
The Saxon Sports Association Blau-Weiß Neuhausen was founded on August 15, 1990 and is the successor to the ISG Neuhausen industrial sports association formed on April 6, 1970. Regardless of the footballer merger, there are departments in winter sports and table tennis at SSV Blau-Weiß Neuhausen.
FV Neuhausen-Cämmerswalde
On March 26, 2007, the football department merged with that of SV Eintracht Cämmerswalde to form FV Neuhausen-Cämmerswalde. The football club has 100 members from both locations. The men play in the Schwartenberg Stadium in Neuhausen and on the Cämmerswalder sports field next to the "Haus des Gastes".
