Denmark took part in the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia, and the Equestrian Games in the Swedish capital Stockholm with a delegation of 37 athletes, 31 men and six women, in 29 competitions in eleven sports.

Since 1896 it was Denmark's thirteenth participation in the Summer Olympics .

The youngest athlete at 20 years and 34 days was the cyclist Palle Lykke , the oldest athlete the rider Inger Lemvigh-Müller (53 years and 231 days).

Flag bearer

The marksman Ole Hviid Jensen wore the Dannebrog , the flag of Denmark , during the opening ceremony in the Melbourne Olympic Stadium , at the equestrian games in Stockholm it was carried by Lars Kirkebjerg .

Medals

With a recovered gold, two silver and a bronze medal, the Danish team finished 20th in the medals table .
