The Turkey participated in the 1956 Summer Olympics in Australia's Melbourne and the equestrian games in the Swedish capital Stockholm with a delegation of 19 athletes in 20 sports competitions in two part.

It was Turkey's eighth participation in the Summer Olympics .

The youngest athlete was the wrestler Hamit Kaplan (22 years and 70 days), the oldest athlete was the rider Salih Koç (38 years and 365 days). The standard bearer for the games in Australia was the wrestler Hamit Kaplan.

Medals

With three won gold, two silver and two bronze medals, the Turkish team finished 12th in the medals table .
