Brunei took at the 1996 Olympic Games for the first time at the Olympic Games in part. The team consisted of an athlete who started in a competition. The flag of Brunei was carried into the Olympic Stadium by Jefri Bolkiah Abdul Hakeem , Prince of Brunei, during the opening ceremony on July 19, 1996 .
Eight years earlier, in Seoul , Brunei was already present with an official at the opening and closing ceremonies. At that time, however, no athlete took part in the games.
