Azerbaijan took part in the 2000 Summer Olympics in the Australian metropolis of Sydney with 31 athletes, 6 women and 25 men, in ten sports.

After 1996 it was the second participation of the European state in the Summer Olympic Games .

Flag bearer

The wrestler Namig Abdullajew carried the flag of Azerbaijan during the opening ceremony at the Australia Stadium .

Medalist

With two won gold and a bronze medal, the Azerbaijani team finished 34th in the medals table .
