Fiji participated in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . It was the 14th participation in the Summer Olympics. The Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee nominated 52 athletes in ten sports, making it by far the largest team in the country in its Olympic history, mainly due to the surprising participation of the soccer team and the introduction of 7-a-side rugby , the country's nationalsportIt was thanks to this that the men also dominated internationally at the time.

The country's 7-a-side rugby players became the first ever to win a medal in Fiji's gold.
