Prachuap Khiri Khan ( Thai : ประจวบคีรีขันธ์ , [pràʔt͡ɕuàp Kiri kʰǎn] ) is a province ( Changwat ) in the southern part of the central region of Thailand . The capital of the province of Prachuap Khiri Khan is also called Prachuap Khiri Khan .

geography

The province lies on the Gulf of Thailand and fills the area north of the Isthmus of Kra . In Tambon Huai Sai ( Mueang ), the narrowest part of the landmass of Thailand is on the Malay Peninsula . It is only 11 kilometers from the Gulf coast to the border with Myanmar . Prachuap Khiri Khan forms the transition from the Malay Peninsula to the Southeast Asian mainland. From the coast, the land rises rapidly to the foothills of the Tenasserim Mountains , which form a natural border with the Tenasserim division of Myanmar. The highest point in the province is the Khao Luang at 1,494 meters.

There are many sandy beaches along the coastline to the Gulf of Thailand, of which Hua Hin has been used intensively since the last century. King Rama VII (Prajadhipok) built his summer palace here, Wang Klai Kangwon ("Palace far from worries"). King Bhumibol Adulyadej's summer palace is also located here.
