The district of Rukum ( Nepali रुकुम जिल्ला Rukum Jillā ) was one of 75 districts in Nepal until 2015 .

It was located in the former Rapti administrative zone south of the western Dhaulagiri Himal and is traversed by the Sani Bheri River in a westerly direction. The administrative seat was Musikot .

After the restructuring of the country through the constitution of 2015 with the conversion of Nepal into a Federal Republic, the district was divided into the newly created provinces No. 5 (eastern part) and Karnali (western part). According to the constitution, the new districts are named Rukum East and Rukum West .

The district had 188,438 inhabitants in 2001; In 2011 there were 208,567.
