Sergei Wiktorowitsch Samsonow ( Russian Сергей Викторович Самсонов ; English transcription: Sergei Viktorovich Samsonov ; born October 27, 1978 in Moscow , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player who played 964 games for the Boston between 1994 and 2011, among others Bruins , Edmonton Oilers , Canadiens de Montréal , Chicago Blackhawks , Carolina Hurricanes and Florida Panthers in the National Hockey League on the left winger position . His greatest career success celebrated Samsonov when he during the NHL lockout - 2004/05 season with HC Dynamo Moscow to win the Russian championship celebrated.

Career

In the 1992/93 season Samsonow played together with some other Russians in the offspring of the ECD Sauerland . In 1994 he returned to HK CSKA Moscow , from where he moved to North America in 1996 because of the better prospects. His first stop was the Detroit Vipers in the International Hockey League . There the NHL scouts actually became aware of him and he was already drawn in the first round in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft as a total of eight. Since then, he played up to because of the lockout unusual season 2004/05 always with his club Draft the Boston Bruins , where he in the 1997/98 season the Calder Memorial Trophy as the best rookie to win the season. He partially bridged the lockout at HK Dynamo Moscow . On March 9, 2006 he was transferred from the Boston Bruins to the Edmonton Oilers .

After he failed with the Oilers in the Stanley Cup final series at the Carolina Hurricanes , he became a post-season free agent and signed a two-year contract with the Canadiens de Montréal in July 2006 .

He could n't convince in Montréal in 2006/07 and was part of many transfer rumors. After he said in early February 2007 that he was not satisfied with his situation in Montréal and that he would prefer to change teams through a transfer, the Canadiens put him on the waiver list, but because of his high salary he was not given by any Team committed. He then came only to a few missions and missed the playoffs with the Canadiens.

In June 2007 he was transferred to the Chicago Blackhawks for Tony Salmelainen and Jassen Cullimore . Since they were also not satisfied with his performance, the Blackhawks also put him on the waiver list, from where the Carolina Hurricanes finally selected him. There, after a long time, the Russian was able to pick up on previously shown performances and at the end of the season received a new contract for a term of three years. In late February 2011, shortly before the trade deadline , it was bartered for Bryan Allen to the Florida Panthers .
