Stegelitz is a village and a district of Möckern in the district of Jerichower Land in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

Stegelitz is located seven kilometers north of the capital Möckern on the federal highway 246a on the western edge of the Hohen Fläming . The Burg-Ost driveway of the A2 motorway can be reached via the federal road in a northerly direction after five kilometers . The distance to the district town of Burg is ten kilometers. Stegelitz is surrounded by agricultural areas, which in turn are bounded by the Wulfenschen in the north and by the Pabstdorfer forest to the east. The Kammerforthgraben flows north of the village from west to east.

history

The place name Stegelitz is of Slavic origin and was first mentioned in 946 in connection with Burgwardei Grabow . Stegelitz is first mentioned in a document about the sale of Grabow by the cathedral chapter of Magdeburg to the Bishop of Brandenburg in 1306. There the place is listed as "Parvum Stegelitz", in 1525 the place name "Lutke Stegelitz" appears. The Diocese of Brandenburg gave the Stegelitz property to the Count Lindau as a fief, but they lent the property to the Wulffen family on Grabow. At the beginning of the 15th century, parts of the fief were given to the von Rosenberg and von Byern families. The latter lent their share to the Plötzky monastery . In 1545 the Wulffenschen shares became the property of the von Plotho family and in 1566 Lippold von Arnim zu Brandenstein acquired the Rosenberg shares. In 1721 the entire Stegelitz estate was acquired by Werner von Wulffen on Pietzpuhl .

After the dioceses of Brandenburg and Magdeburg were secularized as a result of the Thirty Years' War , Stegelitz came under Prussian rule in 1680 and was subordinated to the Möckern office in the Jerichower district. After the Prussian administrative reform of 1815, the place was incorporated into the Jerichow I district.

Until the end of the 19th century, Stegelitz was away from the main traffic routes. In 1896 Stegelitz was connected to the small railway line Burg - Groß Lübars , at the same time the Chaussee Burg - Möckern was completed. Agriculture still shaped the place. Since 1850 the landowner Meißner was the largest manager. He had a two-storey, castle-like mansion built, which he moved into in 1896 after four years of construction. After its bankruptcy, the estate passed into the possession of the “Bauernhof” settlement cooperative in 1935. This attracted settlers from many parts of Germany, so that the number of inhabitants rose from 400 in 1930 to 529 in 1939.

When the collectivization of agriculture was forcibly enforced after the founding of the GDR , many farmers left Stegelitz, those who remained became members of the agricultural production cooperative . At the beginning of 1962 there was no longer any private agriculture in the village. Due to the territorial reform of 1952, Stegelitz was incorporated into the Burg district. In 1965 the small railway line to Burg was closed. The population in 1973 was 470.

After the political reorganization in the course of German reunification, Stegelitz came to the newly formed district of Jerichower Land with the district town of Burg. With the help of subsidies, the infrastructure was rehabilitated, a commercial area was created on which several businesses settled and new agricultural businesses were founded. On January 1, 2002, Stegelitz was incorporated into the town of Möckern.

coat of arms

Stegelitz coat of arms
Blazon : "In gold, a blue corrugated inclined beams, above a natural goldfinch, sitting on a black tree branch with golden round Astende, down a slight right-floating black spade."

The coat of arms was designed by the Coswig graphic artist Ursula Wulfert. The original design of the coat of arms comes from the burger graduate historian and heraldist Gerhard Milde. The design differed in the blazon only with regard to the position and tinging (coloring) of the spade. In the concrete graphic design also with regard to the natural coloring of the goldfinch.

Justification of the coat of arms: Both the goldfinch and the spade refer to local history. The goldfinch is probably derived from the “people from the Stege” - the peat cutters who probably gave the place its name. The spade shown in turn refers to peat cutting . The peat was created in the swampy area of the Kammerforthgraben, which is shown as a sloping beam on the coat of arms.

flag

The flag is blue - yellow (1: 1) striped (horizontal shape: stripes running horizontally, lengthways shape: stripes running vertically) and has the coat of arms in the center.

The flag was designed by the Magdeburg municipal heraldist Jörg Mantzsch .
