TIM is the third studio album by the Swedish DJ and producer Avicii . It was released on June 6, 2019 as the first posthumous studio album via " Geffen Records " and its major label " Universal Music " worldwide. The Scandinavian department of the " EMI Group " acted primarily as the publisher . Collaborations can be found with Chris Martin and the Imagine Dragons , among others . The title of the album is based on Avicii's real first name. The selection of the songs was made by the family, his studio partners and his management. Until April 20, 2018: The Avīci EPs

On August 10, 2017, Avicii released the first part of a three-part EP series, which should serve the release of his third studio album. They should be titled Avīci (01) to Avīci (03) . He said that he put the focus on "a mix of old and new songs" on this project. During his journey, he communicated with the Swedish musician Vincent Pontare , with whom he had worked several times since the beginning of his career. While Avicii has so far only presented the demo version sung by Simon Aldred on his live performances, Romero played the final version, which contains vocals by Coldplay singer Chris Martin . April 2019: confirmation and announcement

April 2019 to May 2019: First single releases and track list

June 2019: album release and last single

One day before the album was released, the song Heaven , which played a major role in the story of Tim , was announced as the third single. The idea for the song Peace of Mind came about during a conversation between Avicii and Vargas & Lagola about the constant urge to be online. The text is socially critical on this topic. Already after the first demos, Bergling saw it as a kind of intro song.
SOS contains an interpolation of the song No Scrubs by TLC , which was written by Tameka Cottle, Kandi Burruss, and Kevin "She'kspere" Briggs.
Tough Love contains a sample of the song Banarasiya from the soundtrack of the Hindi film Raanjhanaa , which was composed by AR Rahman .

The basic structure of Hold the Line was sent to Avicii from Arizona as a demo, whereupon he invited her to the studio. Over 20 different drops were created for the song.

On July 29, 2019, a supposed employee of "Universal Sweden" shared a picture in the internet forum reddit that showed the track list of a remix album by Tim , which should appear shortly. In addition to the already published remixes by Laidback Luke and Tiësto, this should also contain remixes by Jay Hardway , Martin Garrix and Otto Knows , among others . The Cube campaign

On May 24, 2019 it was announced that a campaign would start on June 1, 2019 as part of the album. This was called "Step into the cube". The same song from the album can then be heard in both cubes.

As a background to it all, it was explained that many stories had been told in the past few years in which music had connected people and helped them with their health. Avicii would also have played an important role in many people's lives. For example, strangers would have become good friends through his music alone. And this is exactly where the project starts. By listening to the new Avicii music in different locations, fans from all over the world share this experience.

The cubes were erected in several cities. They could be entered for the first time on June 1, 2019.

Title & artwork

Naming

The studio album is titled Tim and thus the real first name Aviciis. This was chosen at the request of the family to pay tribute to him . This excludes the previous EP series as well as the True Stories series and presents a stand-alone studio album. In an interview broadcast on NBC , Aloe Blacc said that "you hear Tim instead of Avicii in these recordings." This would also have played a major role in choosing the title.

Aloe Blacc , singer from SOS

On April 10, 2019, the first single SOS was released , which was made together with Kristoffer Fogelmark and Albin Nedler. At the same time as the single, the official music video was released, showing memories and reviews of Avicii's fans. At the same time, the YouTube channel “Proximity” also published a lyric video. They wrote the song together shortly after their first joint track Pure Grinding was produced during the Stories session. After the instrumental was finished, Fogelmark, Nedler and Avicii discussed who should take over the vocal part. The name Aloe Blacc was also mentioned at this time . He interprets the lines SOS as a description of Avicii's “own struggles” on the one hand, but also as a kind of gift to people who actually need help and cannot find the right words for it. Fogelmark and Nedler describe the song as "dry" in the verses and "atmospheric" in the drop. Originally, Avicii is said to have provided the melody of the main part for another song, but thanks to a flash of inspiration from Nedler, it finally ended up in the basic structure of SOS . After Avicii's death, Fogelmark and Nedler finished the track and invited Blacc to the studio to posthumously contribute the vocals. A few weeks after the single was released, a remix by Dutch DJ and producer Laidback Luke was released . He received the order to remix the song, because Avicii counts his music to his greatest influences and was able to use Laidback Luke's forum and thus his personal feedback as a great stepping stone well before his breakthrough. He would have always seen him as a mentor and expressed the wish one day to be able to release a remix he had produced. The song was written in May 2014 together with Chris Martin during a joint studio session. This also served the creation of the songs A Sky Full of Stars and Hymn for the Weekend of the studio album Ghost Stories by the rock-pop band Coldplay , of which Martin is a member. The song was first played during Avicii's performance at the Future Music Festival 2015.

In March 2015, Avicii presented the song at the Ultra Music Festival 2015 in a different version, which includes vocals from Cherry Ghost frontman Simon Aldred (singer of Waiting for Love ). All of the proceeds from the album will go to the Tim Bergling Foundation , a foundation established by his family after his death and committed to mental health and suicide prevention.
