True Colors ( engl. "True Colors") is the second studio album of the German - Russian DJ Zedd .
Creation and artwork
All of the pieces on the album were written by Anton Zaslavski (Zedd), in cooperation with other often changing composers. The composers Antonina Armato, Tim James and Julia Michaels worked on three pieces and thus most of the songs on the album. All pieces were produced by Zedd; he produced two titles with Rock Mafia. The album was released and distributed under the music label Interscope Records . On the cover of the album - next to the artist name and song title - a tree can be seen, represented by a wide variety of colors and splashes of paint.
Publication and promotion
True Colors was first published on May 11, 2015 as a download. The release as a physical sound carrier took place on May 15, 2015 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland . The album consists of eleven new studio recordings. A week after its release, a Target Edition of True Colors was released in the United States . This includes two additional remix versions of I Want You to Know by Marc Benjamin and Fox Stevenson.
To promote the album , Zedd posted some mysterious teasers about True Colors on Twitter in early March . The videos also included a link to Zedd's homepage, which included a countdown to March 19, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. After the countdown, clues to various locations in Austin, Texas were found. Stickers with the typical “Z-Logo” from Zedd could be found at all locations. The first 50 fans who uploaded a picture with themselves and the logo and arrived at the stations were invited to the preview of a song by Zedd. This action was repeated over ten days in ten different cities in the United States. Only for the song I Want You to Know there was no event, which was due to the single release of the piece. All fans who made it to the events received a pair of Beats headphones as a gift .

On April 7, 2015, he finally posted the album title, the cover image and the release date on Instagram . On April 8, 2015, Zedd made a remix of I Want You to Know available for the first 250,000 followers of the T-Mobile Facebook and Twitter page.

All lyrics are written entirely in English. Musically, the songs move in the area of EDM and House . The title Done with Love is Zedd's only solo piece, with all other titles he was supported by various guest singers such as Selena Gomez and Echosmith . In the song True Colors , Zedd is officially issued as a solo artist, but the vocal recordings are from Tim James, but this was not listed among the contributors.

Zedd noted in a few interviews that he associates each True Colors song with a specific color. This was also reflected in the song performances, where every evening was characterized by a certain color. For example, the song Straight into the Fire had the theme color orange. Zedd himself described the song's decline as very energetic and very aggressive, in the manner of a fire. So it was pretty easy for him to associate the piece with the color orange.
Single releases
The single I Want You to Know was released three months before the album was released on February 23, 2015 . The second single from Addicted to a Memory followed on April 14, 2015 . The third single Beautiful Now was released on May 13, 2015. The so far last single, True Colors , was released by Zedd on April 29, 2016. I Want You to Know and Beautiful Now were able to place themselves in the charts worldwide. True Colors reached the charts in your new edition with Kesha . Addicted to a Memory has not been listed on the chart to this day.

The reviews of True Colors were mostly moderate. The rating aggregator Metacritic recorded an average rating of 55%.
Awards
On May 22, 2016, True Colors received a Billboard Music Award in the Top Dance / Electronic Album category, with which Zedd prevailed against David Guetta and Major Lazer, among others .
Charts and chart placements
True Colors reached position 50 in the album charts in Germany in one week . In Switzerland the album reached position 68 in a chart week and in the United Kingdom True Colors also reached position 42 in a chart week. In the United States the album reached position four and was in the top 10 for a week and 20 weeks in the charts hold. In 2015 the album was in the US annual album charts at position 199.
For Zedd this is the first chart success in the album charts in Germany, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, as well as the second in the United States. It's his first top 10 hit in the United States.
