Influence of the corona pandemic

A few days before the start of the tour, a positive SARS-CoV-2 test caused a stir with Klemens Murańka from Poland . The local health authorities then sent the entire Polish team into quarantine, as the remaining jumpers were classified as first-degree contact persons. Thus, the qualification in Oberstdorf took place on December 28th without the Polish team, but was declared irrelevant the next day because the ski jumpers from Poland had tested negative for the virus, so that they can now take part in the competition.

In addition, a physiotherapist from the German team tested positive, but this did not affect the participation of the German athletes. However, after a day it tested negative.

On December 31, 2020, the Russian jumper Danil Sadrejew tested positive for the virus. He then had to go into quarantine, so that he missed the qualification and thus the competition in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. In addition, 3 other members of the Russian ski jumping team, including Ilya Mankow , another athlete, were classified as Category 1 contacts and also placed in quarantine.

The qualification for the opening competition of the 69th Four Hills Tournament in Oberstdorf took place on December 28, 2020, won by Austrian Philipp Aschenwald . After Klemens Murańka tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 , the Polish team was denied participation in the qualification. Only 55 jumpers took part in the qualification for the 50 starting places in the competition. However, in two subsequent tests, Murańka each tested negative for the virus. It was therefore decided that in the competition on December 29, 2020, all 62 ski jumpers instead of just 50 qualified athletes would be eligible to start in the first round and the knockout mode would therefore not be used.

The competition took place on December 29, 2020. The victory went to Karl Geiger , who was already in the lead after the first round. Kamil Stoch and last year's runner-up Marius Lindvik followed on the places . Markus Eisenbichler fought his way up to fifth after a weaker first jump from 27th place with the best distance of the day in the second round.

With Karl Geiger, Markus Eisenbichler and Severin Freund, only three of the twelve German ski jumpers who competed made it to the second round, and thus fewer than in a long time.

The qualification for the New Year jumping took place on December 31st. The Slovenian Anže Lanišek won it in front of the World Cup leaders Halvor Egner Granerud and Markus Eisenbichler . Marius Lindvik , the third placed in jumping in Oberstdorf, and Danil Sadrejew did not take part in the qualification and thus also in the New Year's competition. Sadrejew tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 and went into quarantine with Ilya Mankow , who, like some other team members, was classified as a first-degree contact person. Mikhail Nazarov and Yevgeny Klimov, however, were not classified as first-degree contact persons and were therefore allowed to take part in the qualification. Lindvik was struggling with severe toothache, which is why he canceled his participation in the New Year's event.

The competition took place on January 1st, 2021 at 2 p.m. The Pole Dawid Kubacki , who set a new hill record with 144 m in the 2nd round, won ahead of Halvor Egner Granerud , who had led after the 1st round, and Piotr Żyła .

innsbruck

AustriaAustria Bergiselschanze (HS 128)

The qualification took place on January 2, 2021. The overall ranking leader Halvor Egner Granerud prevailed here ahead of Daniel Huber and defending champion Dawid Kubacki . Marius Lindvik canceled his participation again, so that he no longer has a chance of a top placement. The Norwegian had been in Innsbruck since New Year's Eve, where he was being treated for severe toothache.

The competition took place on January 3, 2021. The two best in the overall ranking up to this jumping, Halvor Egner Granerud and Karl Geiger , could not show any good jumps in the first round, so they lost many points in the overall ranking. The day's victory went to Kamil Stoch , who also took over the overall lead. Anže Lanišek was second ahead of Dawid Kubacki . In addition, as in Oberstdorf, only three German athletes, Karl Geiger, Markus Eisenbichler and Martin Hamann, were able to reach the 2nd round.
