history
Weston was part of the Hampden Academy Grant, along with the eastern portion of Monroe Gore and the southern portion of Nelson Tract.
Due to its location on important waterways, the area of today's Weston was important for the local population and for trappers of European descent even before the settlement. In 1803 the land was officially granted as a grant and registered under the name Hampden Academy . At the same time it became known as Baskahegan , which is passed down through the travelogues of William Butterfield , who also measured the land. The actual settlement took place in the 1820s . In 1830 the population is given as 69 people in 11 households. On March 17, 1835, the town was officially recognized under the name Weston. Until 1907, the local borders were subject to constant changes. For example, adjacent unorganized land was added to Weston in 1855, and areas were given to Danforth in the same year. Part of Bancroft was added to the town of Weston in 1907.
For a long time, the town consisted of 5 independent settlements, each with its own schoolhouse and post office. To this day, the 5 settlements Weston , South Weston , Roxie , Selden and Trout Brook Settlement can be easily recognized as separate districts. School and post office are in neighboring Danforth today. The fire brigade, which was independent in Weston until 2012, is now operated from Danforth.
