Amity is a town in Aroostook County in the state of Maine in the United States . It is the largest town in Maine in terms of land area, but with only 238 inhabitants in 162 households on an area of 109.1 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , Amity has an area of 109.1 km² . This consists entirely of land, without water .
Geographical location
The city is located in southeastern Aroostook County on the Canadian border. The boundary follows the St. Croix River , which flows in a southerly direction . The border is in the middle of the river. A few smaller rivers cross the area of the town, they all flow into the St. Croix River. The surface is flat, the highest point is the 232 m high Spring Hill .

history
The town was founded on March 19, 1836. The area was first settled in 1826 by Jonathan T. Clifford, Jonathan Greanleaf and Columbus Dunn. As a township , this area was known as No. 10 first range known. The first settlers bought their land for 20 ct. per acre . Half had to be paid in cash, the other half was worked off while building the local roads. After the town was founded, it was sold to speculators. This has slowed growth, as settlers can buy land from the state of Aroostook much cheaper than from private landowners, most of whom do not live in the town.
The surface is uneven and overgrown with hardwood. Through tributaries of the Penobscot Rivers , Saint John Rivers and the St. Croix Rivers , which extend into the town and which are also large enough to float the wood, the town took its rise.
In North Amity there is the Reed School, a late Victorian school, registered with the number 01001270 as a monument in the National Register of Historic Places , which is now used as a museum.
