Office boars

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The (upper) office Ebern was an office of the Hochstift Würzburg .

function

In the early modern period , offices were a level between the municipalities and the sovereignty . The functions of administration and jurisdiction were not separated. The office was headed by a bailiff who was appointed by the rulers. The Ebern office was called the Oberamt in the 18th century. That was just a name; it was not associated with a superior position over other offices. It was also a central office , that is, a high court district.

history

The statistics of the Hochstift Würzburg from 1699 name 500 subjects in a city, 35 villages and 12 farms and mills. The following were paid as annual income for the bishopric from the office:

Official building

The former rent office building (today's address: Rittergasse 1) is a two-story hipped roof building from the 18th century. The building was later used as a residential building and was the home of the poet Friedrich Rückert . Today it is a branch of the Zeil tax office .

The neighboring property, Rittergasse 3, a saddle roof building and also from the 18th century, served as a princely bulk floor and later as a district office. Both properties and the courtyard portal belonging to Rittergasse 3 are listed as historical monuments.
