Buffalo County is a district in the state of South Dakota in the United States . It has 2,032 inhabitants. The county seat is Gann Valley .

The county covers an area of 1,262 square kilometers; 44 square kilometers (3.45 percent) of this is water.
history
The county was established on January 6, 1864 and named after the bison herds in the area.

Crow Creek Site (2017)
Two places in the county have National Historic Landmark status , the Crow Creek Site and the Fort Thompson Mounds . Six buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of July 30, 2018).
