Vacheresse is a French commune in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .
geography
Vacheresse is 834 m above sea level, 16 kilometers east-southeast of the city of Thonon-les-Bains (as the crow flies). The village extends in Chablais , slightly elevated on the eastern slope of the Dranse d'Abondance, in the northern Savoy Alps .
The area of the 31.02 km² municipal area includes a section of the Vallée d'Abondance. The valley is relatively open in the area of Vacheresse and oriented from southeast to northwest. In the southwest, the community area extends to the mountain range that separates the Vallée d'Abondance from the Dranse de Morzine valley. To the east, the communal soil extends into an area with strong relief, which is drained from the Eau Noire and its side stream Nant de Darbon to the Dranse d'Abondance. This area is made up of the peaks of Pointe de Pelluaz ( 1916 m ), Pointe de Bénévent ( 2071 m ), Pointe de Lachau ( 1962 m ), Mont Chauffé (at 2095 m the highest point in Vacheresse) and Pointe d'Autigny ( 1807 m ) delimited. There are extensive alpine meadows on the slopes. The mountain lakes Lac de Fontaine and Lac de Darbon also belong to the municipality.
Community structure
In addition to the original village center, Vacheresse also includes various hamlet settlements, namely:
- Taverole ( 800 m ) above the mouth of the Ruisseau de Taverole in the Dranse d'Abondance
- Fontany ( 800 m ) on the main road below Vacheresse
- Écotex ( 837 m ) on the western slope of the valley opposite Vacheresse
- Les Granges ( 810 m ) on the western slope of the valley
- Le Villard ( 860 m ) on a terrace above Vacheresse
- La Revenette ( 860 m ) at the entrance to the Eau Noire valley
- Ubine ( 1491 m ), an alpine settlement at the west foot of Mont Chauffé
- Darbon ( 1578 m ), an alpine settlement in the valley of the Nant de Darbon
Neighboring communities of Vacheresse are Bernex in the north, Novel and La Chapelle-d'Abondance in the east, Abondance and Bonnevaux in the south and La Baume and Chevenoz in the west.

With 855 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Vacheresse is one of the small communities in the Haute-Savoie department. In the last few decades there has been a significant increase in the number of inhabitants. Various single-family houses were built outside the old village center.
Economy and Infrastructure
Vacheresse was a predominantly agricultural village well into the 20th century . Today there are various local small businesses; The wood processing industry is also of importance. Many of the employed people are commuters who go to work in the larger towns in the area. The region around Vacheresse is a popular summer hiking area.
The village is located on the main road from Thonon-les-Bains into the Vallée d'Abondance.
