The Football League Third Division 1955/56football league . The division, which is divided into north and south seasons, had their two champions Grimsby Town and Leyton Orient and at the same time promoted to the Football League Second Division . For the two promoted teams in the third division season 1956/57, the two second division clubs Plymouth Argyle and Hull City ranked in the table below . Nobody had to relegate from both third division seasons, because both the lower-placed northern clubs Bradford Park Avenue and Crewe Alexandra as well as Crystal Palace and Swindon Town in the south received enough votes in the reelection process of the league association to win again in the 1956/57 season to participate in the Third Division.
