Harvey Glance
Harvey Glance (born March 28, 1957 in Phenix City , Alabama ) is an American track and field athlete who was successful in the 100 meters in the late 1970s and 1980s.
Career
Harvey Glance won five gold medals as a member of the U.S. 4 x 100 meter relay :
- at the XXI. 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal - in the individual race over 100 meters he came fourth in 10.19 s,
- at the Pan American Games 1979 in San Juan , where he also won his only individual medal - silver over 100 meters in 10.19 s behind the Cuban Silvio Leonard in 10.13 s,
- at the IAAF World Cup 1985 in Canberra ,
- at the 1987 Pan American Games in Indianapolis and
- at the 1987 World Championships in Rome .
In 1976 he ran the 100 meters twice in 9.9 s and thus equalized the world record.
As a student at Auburn University , he won three NCAA championships: 1976 over 100 and 200 meters (10.16 s and 20.74 s) and 1977 over 100 meters (10.22 s). At the AAU championships, he could not win a title. In 1979 he was runner-up in 10.15 s and third in 1986 in 10.04 s.
After finishing his active career, he became head coach at the Universities of Auburn (until 1997) and Alabama .
