Woody Harrelson
Woody Harrelson (* 23. July 1961 when Woodrow Tracy Harrelson in Midland , Texas ) is an American actor and director .
Life
Harrelson grew up with his mother Diane Lou (née Oswald) in Lebanon ( Ohio ). His father Charles Voyde Harrelson left his wife and children in 1968. Woody Harrelson studied English and acting at Hanover College in Indiana and is a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity .
Woody Harrelson became known from 1985 for his role as Woody in the television series Cheers . His first leading role in the cinema was that of Billy Hoyle in the comedy White Boys Can't Do It (1992). His role in Natural Born Killers by Oliver Stone became famous, where he played a serial killer duo with Juliette Lewis in 1994 . For the title role in Larry Flynt - The Naked Truth of Miloš Forman , he was nominated for Best Actor at the 1997 Academy Awards. He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in 2010 for his portrayal of a traumatized US soldier in the drama The Messenger and in 2018 as Sheriff Bill Willoughby, suffering from cancer, in the feature film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri .
In his 2011 released album, Harrelson sings in the song Wild and Free with Ziggy Marley (Ziggy Marley ft. Woody Harrelson).
In 1985 Harrelson married Nancy Simon in Tijuana . They divorced ten months later. On December 28, 2008, he married his former assistant Laura Louie Harrelson, with whom he had lived since 1987. The couple's first daughter was born on February 28, 1993, and the second daughter was born on September 22, 1996; on June 3, 2006, they became parents to a daughter again. Harrelson campaigns for animal rights and is vegan . In 2010 he supported the campaign The Cove PSA - My Friend Is ... for the protection of dolphins together with Jennifer Aniston , Courteney Cox , Ben Stiller and other Hollywood stars .
Woody Harrelson describes himself as a follower of anarchism . He is a supporter of the 9/11 Truth Movement and is in favor of a reopening of the investigation into the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 . Harrelson continued to spread false reports in the spring of 2020 in the COVID-19 pandemic , according to which the virus is related to 5G cellular technology .
Woody Harrelson advocates cannabis legalization and applied for two licenses for marijuana dispensaries in Hawaii in early 2016.
