The Onolzbach , a right tributary of the Franconian Rezat, flows north of the village . Approx. The sable wood is located 0.5 km southwest of the village , and approx. 0.75 km northeast of the Hürbelrangen . history

The place was first mentioned by name in 1303 as "ze Hindermholtz" meaning settlement behind the forest . In the early 14th century, the oldest fief books of the Würzburg monastery contain entries on the place that they had given in full to the Lords of Heideck as a fief. In the 14th century, Hinterholz came to the Canons' Monastery of St. Gumbertus in Ansbach, namely nine courtyards, but only the meadow of one courtyard. In the 15th century, Hinterholz came under the rule of Seckendorff zu Jochsberg , who sat there as castle counts and not only exercised the manorial rule , but also the village and community rule over Hinterholz. In 1459, Jochsberg Castle owned six Hinterholz estates, plus the shaft drive and the tithe, and in 1544 only five estates. In 1682 the Brandenburg-Ansbach Vogtamt Jochsberg was established , to which Hinterholz was now also subordinate. The village jurisdiction exercised Jochsberg, the Vogtei except Etters and the Fraisch the Hofkastenamt Ansbach .

In the Vetterschen Oberamtsbeschreibung from 1732 it is said that "Hinterholtz" consists of nine subjects (Brandenburg-Ansbach Vogtamt Jochsberg: eight, Stiftsamt Ansbach : one) and the parish shepherd's house; The settlement in St. Georg in Neunkirchen , whose pastor there was also entitled to the tithe, was parish . The community rule was exercised by the margravial office of Jochsberg, the Fraisch by the margravial upper and caste office in Ansbach. Nothing about that changed in the Old Kingdom . From 1797 to 1808 the place was under the judiciary and chamber office of Ansbach .

As part of the community edict, Hinterholz was assigned to the Neunkirchen tax district, formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community of Neunkirchen, founded in 1811 . On January 1, 1972, Hinterholz was incorporated into the city of Leutershausen as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .
