Gablingen is a municipality in the Swabian district of Augsburg .
geography
location
The community is located about ten kilometers northwest of Augsburg on the edge of the Augsburg - Western Forests Nature Park (32% of which is forest ). The Schmutter flows on the eastern edge of the village . At the easternmost edge of the municipality is the former Gersthofen-Gablingen military airfield , on which the BND Gablingen branch and the Augsburg-Gablingen correctional facility are located.

history
Until the church is planted
The fifth century is cited as the founding time.
The rectory in Gablingen was first mentioned in 1144 and belonged to the Duchy of Swabia . From 1527 to 1806 the community was owned by the Fugger family , then the place became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria . In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria, today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .
Modern times
A settlement for employees of the air base was built in the area of the train station in 1940 and considerably enlarged between 1952 and 1962 by new buildings for displaced persons.
In 1994 this date (850 year celebration) was duly celebrated and a local chronicle was published on this occasion.
Subcamp of the Dachau concentration camp
In 1944 a satellite camp of the Dachau concentration camp was located here .
Incorporations
The hamlet of Holzhausen has belonged to Gablingen since 1818.
On May 1, 1978, the previously independent municipality of Lützelburg was incorporated.
Population development
Between 1988 and 2018 the municipality grew from 4,033 to 4,692 by 659 inhabitants or 16.3%.

Karina Ruf has been the full-time mayor since May 2020 , she is the first woman in this office in Gablingen and won the 2020 election with 35 votes ahead of Jürgen Schantin (independent) in the runoff election.
Karl Hörmann was mayor of Gablingen from 2008-2020 and is now the former mayor . Pius Kaiser senior was the former mayor of many years from 1978 to 2008.

Infrastructure and economy
The community has a train station on the Augsburg – Nördlingen railway line . This is about 1.5–2 kilometers from the center of the main town in the district of Gablingen-Siedlung. From there there are two bus connections (420,459) of the Augsburg Transport and Tariff Association in the town itself in the direction of Augsburg or Achsheim, Langweid / Lech and the Gersthofen industrial park . 6 km to the federal autobahn 8 Stuttgart-Munich with the intersection Augsburg-West or Neusäß, Bundesstrasse 2 Augsburg-Donauwörth / Bundesstrasse 17 or Landsberg / Lech " Gersthofen - Nord " (5 km) is the most direct exit to Gablingen. A new industrial area of 16 hectares on the edge of the former airfield and an older industrial area in the northern area towards the Foret ( Langweid am Lech ), between the railway line Nuremberg-Augsburg and the federal road 2 Augsburg-Donauwörth 2 km to the exit, have very good traffic development : " Stettenhofen " located.
There are also three cycle paths leading past Gablingen :
- The Bavarian-Swabian Jakobusweg (Jakobus-Pilgerweg) from Oettingen via Augsburg into the Allgäu and to Lake Constance .
- The 7-Schwaben-Tour - 220 kilometers around the nature park
- The Pfarrer Kneipp path from Biberbach to Bad Wörishofen - with a total distance of approx. 84 km.
In the community there is a primary school, 2 cath. Kindergartens, an AWO nursery, two physicians, two veterinarians, a dentist, a pharmacy , three clubhouses, two parochial homes and a community center .

"Guest House Schuster" breakfast or guest house (property) is the one of two accommodation facilities in Gablingen and "St. Klaus Cottage" (Naturfreundehaus) in Muttershofen.
Culture and sights
The numerous local associations (open-air stage - carnival parades - motocross - nature lovers' house) offer a wide range of cultural, sports and leisure activities.
A forest and hilly landscape on the edge of the nature park " Nature Park Augsburg - Western Forests " is ideal for walks and long hikes.
Gablingen is a carnival stronghold in the northern district of Augsburg . The carnival season starts with the carnival meeting, which will take place for the 23rd time in 2014. A varied program of word contributions, dance and music has been performed there since 1992. Of course, the actors also poke fun at the mishaps of the community members or any wrong decisions made by local politicians. In recent years there have also been an increasing number of dance contributions in the program.
The carnival session usually takes place on the weekend before Carnival Saturday, on the Friday and Saturday.
Since 1979 there have been annual carnival parades in Gablingen with a Kehraus celebration .
The carnival parade traditionally held on Shrove Tuesday in the main town.
There is also an archaeological museum at the primary school in the main town , which houses finds from the area. Objects from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages are exhibited. In addition, information is provided about the development of medieval castles in the Augsburg district.
Personalities
- Paul Ernst Klee (born December 18, 1879 in Münchenbuchsee , Canton Bern , † June 29, 1940 in Muralto , Canton Ticino ) was stationed at Gersthofen-Gablingen airfield from January 17, 1917 . As the clerk for the treasurer, he was spared a front-line assignment and he was able to continue painting in a room outside the barracks.
Architectural monuments
- The baroque parish church of St. Martin from 1734 to 1738 is important as a Fugger foundation . The church tower and choir of the Gablingen church date from the second half of the 15th century. Two Fugger's alliance coats of arms can be found on the two altars in the cross arms of the church.
