Pfreimd (2016)

Pfreimd is a town in the Upper Palatinate district of Schwandorf and the seat of the Pfreimd administrative community .

The city is located at the mouth of the river Pfreimd in the Naab and belongs to the Natural Park Upper Palatinate Forest .

history

Surname

The name Pfreimd is derived from the Sorbian words "pri" , which means with or on and "courage" , cloudy liquid. This gives the explanation: a river with cloudy water . The river Pfreimd , which flows into the Naab , gave the city of Pfreimd its name. Alternatively, the Germanic hydronym * Frīma can be reconstructed, from which the toponym * Frīmida, documented in the 11th century, is derived. This basic form of the river and place name was adopted in Slavonic as * Primьda , the etymon of the Czech Přimda .

Pfreimd Castle

Pfreimd has been documented for the first time since 1118, and Pfreimd Castle has been secured as the central administrative center. The origin of Pfreimd lay in a rural settlement near the moated castle Pfreimd, as is evident from a document from 1311 ( Pfreimd .. ipso fluuio Pfreimd circumdante castrum ).

City of Pfreimd

In the second half of the 14th century the town of Pfreimd was established, which has been a town with privileges since January 3, 1372. In an arable land of the Lower Bavarian Viztumamt Straubing around 1300, Pfreimd comprised two farms, two fisheries, a mill, a fiefdom, four mansions , i.e. plots of land and an area on which the right to settle existed (area). The ownership of Pfreimd changed from the Lower Bavarian dukes to the Landgraves von Leuchtenberg in 1332 , who later moved their residence to Pfreimd.

Church history

In 1216 it was separated from the mother parish of Perschen and the village of Pfreimd became its own parish. The Lords of Rotteneck were the founders of the church in Pfreimd. The right of patronage over the church belonged to the Lower Bavarian dukes and, from 1332, the landgraves of Leuchtenberg after they had acquired Pfreimd.

Incorporations

On January 1, 1972, the previously independent communities of Iffelsdorf, Stein and Weihern were incorporated. Territory parts of the dissolved community Saltendorf were added on January 1, 1978 and the dissolved community Hohentreswitz, which had taken up Pamsendorf on January 1, 1971, on May 1, 1978.

Between 1988 and 2018, the city grew from 5,128 to 5,349 by 221 inhabitants or 4.3%. Population development in the municipality of Pfreimd taking into account the incorporations:

In the mayoral election on March 2, 2008, Arnold Kimmerl (ÖDP) took first place with 41.5%. Alfred Hammer (CSU) got 35.1%, Martha Schönberger (FWG) got 23.4%. Thus there was a runoff between Arnold Kimmerl and Alfred Hammer, which Kimmerl won with 64.6%.

In the 2014 local elections, there was again a runoff between Richard Tischler (FWG), who had received the most votes in the first ballot, and Hubert Betz (ödp). Tischler won the election with 63.6% of the valid votes.

Town twinning

The earlier common affiliation to the Landgraviate of Leuchtenberg led to a town partnership with Grünsfeld ( Main-Tauber district ). Since November 15, 2013 also with the city of Přimda (German: Pfraumberg) in the Czech Republic.

Parish Church of the Assumption

• The parish church of the Assumption of Mary was created through extensive reconstruction of a late Gothic church in the years 1670–1685. The richly decorated interior is one of the most valuable works of art of the Baroque in the Upper Palatinate. The grave of the Landgraves of Leuchtenberg was in the church.

• Resistance oak : When the construction stop of the Wackersdorf reprocessing plant was announced on May 30, 1989 , a "resistance oak " was planted in front of the Protestant Pauluskirche as a symbol for a "non-radiated" future. In 2009 a plaque was unveiled there and the oak was blessed.

Pfreimd is on the federal motorway 93 (junction Pfreimd) near the Oberpfälzer Wald motorway junction (A 93 and A 6 ). The local train station is regularly served by trains on the Regensburg – Weiden railway line.

Pfreimd has been the Bundeswehr base since 1971 . In the Oberpfalz barracks which are Panzerbataillon 104 and the 2nd  company of the supply battalion 4 stationed the Panzerbrigade 12 are subject.
