The association was established by AKO on March 31, 1815 as the 25th Infantry Regiment and emerged from the Lützow Freikorps . Therefore, the foundation day was also set to its founding date February 18, 1813. After its formation, the regiment was at the beginning of April 1815, during the Wars of Liberation, initially in an outpost position at Dinant and took part in the battle of Ligny . This was followed by the Battle of Waterloo and the subsequent pursuit of French troops. After the end of the Wars of Liberation, the regiment moved into garrison on December 3, 1815 in Erfurt .

German War 1866

During the German War , the Fusilier Battalion took part in the capture of Stade . The 1st and 2nd Battalions were used in the battle of Langensalza . In the Main Campaign , the regiment was used again as a closed unit. It fought at Waldaschach , Roßbrunn and Uettingen as well as in the bombardment of Würzburg .

Franco-German War 1870/71

At the beginning of the war against France , the regiment took part in the enclosure and siege of Schlettstadt . After the city surrendered, there were battles near Gebweiler and the siege of Neubreisach . Outpost battles followed at Cernay and Gevenheim. In the further course of the war, the association was used in the siege of Belfort .

First World War 1914/18

With the outbreak of the First World War the regiment on August 2nd, 1914 made as part of the 29th Infantry Brigade of the 15th Division mobile . It took in August at the Battle of Lorraine part and went to the battle of Arras in mid-October 1914 in the trench warfare over. In addition to trench warfare, the following year was marked by participation in the Loretto battle and the autumn battle in Champagne . On July 6, 1916, the subordination changed and the regiment came to the 80th Infantry Brigade .

Whereabouts

After the end of the war , the regiment could not return to the previous garrison in the Red Barracks in Aachen. Therefore, the association was demobilized first from December 20, 1918, then at the beginning of January 1919 in Emden and finally from the beginning of February 1919 in Cloppenburg and then dissolved. In January 1919 parts of them joined the Freikorps "Lützow", which was part of the Reichswehr Jäger Battalion 30 with the formation of the Provisional Reichswehr .

The tradition in the Reichswehr was adopted by the 13th ( MW ) company of the 16th Infantry Regiment in Oldenburg by decree of the Chief of the Army Command, General of the Infantry Hans von Seeckt , on August 24, 1921 .

Heads of regiments

The first head of the regiment was from June 4, 1838 to June 25, 1864, King Wilhelm I of Württemberg . After his death, this position remained vacant for a few years until King Karl von Württemberg held this position from February 28, 1871 to October 6, 1894.
