Jaroslawa Vjatscheslawowna Schwedowa ( Russian Ярослава Вячеславовна Шведова , English transcription Yaroslava Shvedova ; born September 12, 1987 in Moscow , USSR ) is a former tennis player who initially played for Russia and has competed for Kazakhstan since 2008 .
life and career
Schwedowa began playing tennis at the age of six, which her father (still her trainer and coach) taught her. Her mother, Nursija Bagmanowa, was a successful ultra marathon runner in the 1990s.
2007
In February 2007, Schwedowa unexpectedly reached the final of the Bangalore Open with a victory over number two seeded local hero Sania Mirza 6: 7 2 , 6: 4, 6: 4 , in which she won the top-seeded defending champion Mara Santangelo 6: 4, 6: 4 defeated. It was her first title on the WTA Tour , after which she was ranked 78th and thus for the first time in the Top 100 .
At the Miami Masters she came into the main draw via qualification and was able to beat a top 20 player for the first time in the second round with Ana Ivanović (7: 5, 6: 4). In round three she lost to Tathiana Garbin 6: 4, 3: 6, 2: 6.
2008-2009
In August 2008 she won the ITF tournament in Monterrey with a final victory over Magdaléna Rybáriková 6: 4, 6: 1. After surviving the qualification, she lost her first round match against Agnieszka Radwańska at the US Open with 4: 6 and 2: 6. In qualifying, she made it into the French main field in 2009 with wins over Shenay Perry (6: 4, 6: 4), Angela Haynes (6: 1, 6: 2) and Elena Baltacha (6: 2, 6: 2) Open . There she defeated Kaia Kanepi and in the second round the qualifier Arantxa Rus . Then she was defeated by Maria Sharapova 6: 1, 3: 6 and 4: 6. 2010-2011
At the French Open in 2010 she reached the final in the mixed competition with the Austrian Julian Knowle , which was just lost 6: 4, 6: 7 5 , [9:11]. At Wimbledon she was able to celebrate her greatest success to date in the doubles competition by winning the title at Vania King's side . With King she also won the title at the US Open in the same year . After her semi-final advance in Paris, Schwedowa reached fourth place in 2011, her highest position in the double world rankings. At the end of July, she secured her fourth double title at the side of Sania Mirza at the tournament in the US College Park, which was first included in the tour calendar . The two defeated Wolha Hawarzowa and Alla Kudrjawzewa in straight sets. By the end of October, there were two more double victories for Schwedowa / King, their titles number three and four.
2012-2013
At the Australian Open , she failed in qualifying in 2012. In contrast, she came to the quarterfinals for the first time in doubles with Vania King, in which she was defeated by Lucie Hradecká and Andrea Hlaváčková in two sets. At the French Open, Schwedowa surprised in singles when she reached the quarterfinals with victories over Carla Suárez Navarro and defending champion Li Na ; there she was stopped by Petra Kvitová (6: 3, 2: 6, 4: 6). In Wimbledon , she then managed the feat of playing a golden set in her third round match against Sara Errani (6: 0, 6: 4) , that is, to win the set with 24 points in a row. On October 29, she achieved a new best individual ranking with place 25.
In the 2013 season, Schwedowa was particularly successful in doubles. You win tournaments in Florianópolis , Tashkent and Taipei . In 2014, two more were added to the side of Anabel Medina Garrigues in the first four months .
